Get some dirt time in and learn a new skill! We teach various wilderness related skills at different times throughout the year. You can find classes ranging from a half day (4 hours) to a full day (8 hours) so there’s an option to fit everyone’s schedule! Topics are chosen at random, or by popular demand, and our classes always focus heavily on being as hands on and interactive as possible while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere for our students. You learn best when you’re relaxed and enjoying yourself and our classes present excellent opportunities for both!

This class is open to ages 10 & Up, adults and children. The location will be the Kirkmont Center, 6946 Co. Rd. 10 Zanesfield, Ohio 43360. We will begin the class at 9:00 AM and the class will conclude at 5:00 PM. Participation is $80.00/person. This class is limited to 15 participants. Please bring a chair if you would like one, a lunch, and water for the day.
What do you do if you find yourself lost in the woods without a tent, camper, or the ability to go home for the night? Among other things, you will need to figure out a shelter to get you through! In this class, we will discuss different types of shelter that can be utilized in a survival scenario, or just for fun, and how they are constructed. Among the topics we will explore will be tarp shelters, debris shelters, and improvised shelters. We will be hands on and participants will be building the different kinds of shelters that we discuss both on their own and in teams.
Learn a handful of knots that we will be using throughout the class.
Introduction to Tarp Shelters. 3 different configurations and their value, how to erect them, using a campfire with a tarp shelter.
Introduction to improvised shelters. Using both natural and man made materials to build as effective of a shelter as possible against the elements.
Natural material shelters and debris shelters. Building an effective shelter using nothing but what nature provides.

Master the basics of building a successful fire without the use of matches, lighters, and all the other luxuries of the modern world. Look at fire from the ground up, discussing the necessary components for a fire to exist and persist. Overcome building a fire in wet conditions and be prepared to become the go-to person of your group whenever a flame is needed. This class is limited to 15 participants.

How would you hunt, fish, or defend yourself if you were stuck in the wilderness? Even if you carry a firearm, ammunition is a limited and precious resource. What do you do when the bullets are gone? What can you do to bridge the gap between lack and provision? Explore how you can build tools from what nature provides in order to take care of yourself in the wilderness.
Come and learn how to build a 4-prong survival spear! This class is open to ages 15 & up. The class will begin at 9:00 and will conclude at 2:00. Participation is $50.00 per person, and participants will leave with their own spear. This Class is limited to 15 participants.
This will be a make & Take class where each participant will leave with their own survival spear.
Learn how to select your materials and prepare them.
Discuss basic knife use and safety.
Discuss a couple simple knots and lashing that we will use to build our spears.
